2002 Pokémon Neo Destiny Shining Mewtwo 1st Edition PSA 10: What Collectors Need to Know

2002 Pokémon Neo Destiny Shining Mewtwo 1st Edition PSA 10

Mewtwo, a clone of Mew (Get it… Mew- Two!), is quite a genius. Along with being one of the most powerful Pokémon, Mewtwo has intelligence that surpasses most other Pokémon and humans.

Let’s dive into what makes the character, and this specific asset special.

Mewtwo: About the Pokémon

Mewtwo was the antagonist in the Pokémon franchise’s first theatrical release, Pokémon The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back. When it was all said and done, the film grossed over $172 million worldwide.

The legendary Pokémon stands at 6’7” tall. Mewtwo’s signature move is a psystrike, which attacks a target’s general defense instead of its special defense to calculate inflicted damage.

For a long time, Mewtwo was considered to be the most powerful Pokémon in the game. While Mewtwo doesn’t hold that title anymore, Mewtwo remains quite relevant, despite there being many other Pokémon in existence.

Mewtwo is also one of a handful of Pokémon who is capable of communicating with humans in English. Other Pokémon can communicate through forms of telepathy and/or mind control.

One of the most interesting aspects of Mewtwo is its mega evolutions. Mewtwo has not one, but two different mega evolutions. By using the Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y items, Mewtwo is able to turn into Mewtwo X and Mewtwo Y.

While Mewtwo has very strong base power, both of its mega evolutions have base stats of over 100, with Special Attack being over 154.

Basically, both of Mewtwo’s mega-evolutions are forms you don’t want to mess with.

Mewtwo: About the Card

The Pokémon Neo Destiny set was originally released in February of 2002. The set contains 113 cards - 105 in the base set, along with 8 shining rare cards.

The shining Pokémon cards had a new, holographic metallic look with a plain frame. Similar to the Japanese version, Mewtwo also has a holographic finish.

The shining Pokémon is always exciting for collectors, and Mewtwo is certainly no different.

One major difference between the English version and the Japanese version is the energy layout for the Psyburst attack. While the English version has them stacked, the Japanese version aligns them horizontally.

In addition, the attack points are much larger in the English version. This card has the 1st edition logo, which is Mewtwo’s third 1st edition card printed.

This card is a PSA 10, POP 189, meaning there are only 189 versions of this card in a PSA 10.
