This beautiful card is a PSA 10 POP 206. POP is short for "population". It is used to help collectors understand the scarcity of a particular graded card. So, POP 206 means there are only 206 versions of this card that have received a PSA 10 grade.

Released in 2003, four years after the 1999 Pokémon boom, this card has a significantly lower print run than the original set. Meaning, this card is extremely rare.

The cartoon-like drawing in the background, highlighting it’s crystal Holo features, immediately makes it stand out, too.

We’ll get into more about the card shortly.

What’s the other reason this card is so special? Well, it was the first user-drop on Dibbs. One of our very own users is bringing this drop to the platform.

What Collectors Need to Know About the Skyridge Charizard

Extreme Rarity

What are your chances of pulling one of these cards today? Basically 0%. This is one of the main reasons this card is so valuable.

As mentioned above, because the release of this card came in 2003, after the 1999 Pokémon boom, fewer were made.

To be exact, less than 400 of the Skyridge Charizard have been submitted to PSA. Less than half have received a gem mint 10 grade.

Charizard is simply the most sought after Pokémon, and this is a very rare version.

The Grade

Cards are graded on a 1-10 scale. A Skyridge Charizard with a PSA 8 grade, will be worth more than a Skyridge Charizard with a PSA 7 grade, naturally.

But, have you ever wondered what exactly grades are based on? The main factors are: Centering, Corners, Edges and Surface. Each of these are given an individual grade between 1-10.

Through this, the final grade of the card, also numbered 1-10, is calculated. With such intense parameters surrounding the grading of cards, it becomes clear why not only the grade, but the POP, too, is so important.

So, this Skyridge Charizard, with a PSA 10 grade, is special.

Incredible Design

The detail of the design in this set, and particularly this card, is downright remarkable. The claws almost appear to jump out of the card. The fiery tail lightly comes into the picture.

The artwork of the card is what makes it a fan favorite. It is widely considered to be ranked among the most beautiful of all Charizard cards produced for the Pokémon TCG.

Final Charizard Produced By Wizards of the Coast

Wizards of the Coast made Pokémon cards from 1998 to 2003. There is a lot of hype right now revolving around classic cards made in the Wizards of the Coast era.

There were sixteen total sets produced by Wizards of the Coast during this period, from Base set to Skyridge. Because these sets are unlikely to be reprinted, there is more value attached to them.

These sets are now widely viewed as “vintage”.

The 2003 Pokémon Skyridge #146 Charizard Holo PSA 10 being the final Charizard produced by Wizards of the Coast is undoubtedly a big deal.

The Role of History and Emotion

The reasons this card is so rare – and ultimately so special – are touched on above. What comes alongside all of this, though, is the emotional connection that is inherent in the hobby of collecting, particularly when your collection contains a card with such a rich history.

A card like this Skyridge Charizard, packed with interesting nuggets of history, undoubtedly initiates an emotional connection only a particular echelon of collectables can.

Whether you have been a collector for decades, years, months or days, it is always fun to understand the history of what it is you're collecting. Like anything, some collectables have a more significant story than others.

The unique design of this card, with the claw nearly jumping out of the card is so special. It adds to the rarity that is inherent in the card. Rounded out with the incredible nugget that it is the last Charizard produced by the Wizards of the Coast, it is easy to see why this Skyridge Charizard is such a can't miss card.
